Over the past few years, my relationship with the Foundation has changed. Before 2020, I was a hardcore girl who rarely left the house without a bare face and always wore full body coverage and matte makeup. But when lockdown happened, I (like many others) took a step back from this complete fascination…and haven’t been the same since. I now prefer foundations that are flexible, dewy, and have light to medium coverage. A bonus is that it contains skin care ingredients, especially those that are beneficial to my ever-changing 40+ menopausal skin. Only a few have passed so far, but I recently discovered a new candidate to add to the lineup. It’s Shiseido Revital Essence Skin Glow Foundation SPF 30 ($56).
How to use
Shiseido has a long history (founded in 1872!) and is a pioneer in many makeup categories, especially complexion. RevitalEssence Skin Glow Foundation is a groundbreaking product, a first for the brand, as it uses the same active levels of ingredients used in Shiseido’s skin care serums. So, this is not your usual skin care formula foundation. literally skin care.
Two independent clinical studies have been conducted on this product with interesting results. 86% reported that their fine lines were less noticeable in just one week, and 94% and 91%, respectively, said their bare skin looked smoother and more radiant.
And this makes sense based on the ingredients. RevitalEssence contains two powerful active ingredients: Fermented Kefir+ and Niacinamide. “Fermented Kefir+ is a powerful prebiotic that helps maintain a healthy microbiome balance,” said James Boehmer, Global Artistic Director, Shiseido Makeup. James Boehmer said. “Japanese rice is fermented to turn it into smaller molecules that make it easier to absorb and help strengthen the skin’s barrier.” Boosts function, improves hydration and radiance. He added that niacinamide, a type of B vitamin, helps realign skin texture and even out skin tone. “These two prebiotics work synergistically to give you healthy, vibrant skin. In just one week, your skin will be visibly smoother, brighter, and fine lines will be smoothed out.” ” has visibly decreased, he says.
Ingredients aside, the foundation’s big appeal is its versatility, which Boehmer praises. “I think this foundation can serve a variety of needs,” he says. “For minimalists who want a hybrid product that can multitask in one, this is the perfect foundation. For those with more intense and elaborate skincare and makeup routines, myself included, this foundation is the perfect foundation. Apart from its application versatility, Boehmer says its broad-spectrum sun protection benefits and sensual texture make it an ideal choice for “all skin types.” “It fits your lifestyle and occasion.”
my honest review
Although formulas include sunscreen, most dermatologists say the SPF in cosmetics is likely not enough to provide complete protection. That’s why I still apply sunscreen first. Boehmer said the product can also be applied with a brush, but she prefers to do it by hand because it’s easier to blend the serum-like formula into the skin. I followed his lead and tried using his fingers, and I really liked the way the foundation went on.
I have natural redness and just applying a small amount of foundation immediately spreads the redness. On that note, this is a buildable foundation that contains high levels of skin care actives, so it’s important to start small. A little goes a long way, and you really only need one pump. This means that one bottle will last you quite a while. After using it for about a week, I felt that my complexion became brighter. However, there was no significant change in my fine lines (which I am currently in between Botox sessions).
Overall, I think this is a great foundation especially for everyday use. I love the consistency of the formula and the benefits it provides for my skin. Shiseido Revital Essence Skin Glow Foundation SPF 30 is truly a pioneer in the foundation category. Be sure to choose us the next time you shop for beauty products. You won’t regret it.
