Janine Summers, founder of Orivanna, shares how she started a skincare brand that empowers and inspires women with natural formulas.
What is your morning routine like for the first 30 minutes of your day?
I wake up around 6:15am, go for a swim, and check my email before waking up my teenage daughters.
I’m primarily British, so I start my mornings with a pot of tea, followed by a walk in the garden with my dog. My skincare routine is done after my daughters go to school, so I can take some time for myself afterwards. I always use the Vitamin C Brightening Serum and then the SPF Sun Defense Drops.
Can you tell us more about your skincare routine?
My morning skincare routine is all about hydration and protection. I start my day with a Rosewater & Chamomile Cream Cleanser, followed by a Vitamin C Serum to brighten my skin and protect against cell damage from UV rays. Then use Bakuchiol Restoring Eye Cream to wake up your eyes and day moisturizer to hydrate and nourish your skin. Finally, add a few drops of Sun Defense. This is a mineral SPF that protects against UV rays and also protects against blue light and environmental pollution. It also contains niacinamide, which reduces redness. At night, I always double cleanse with Soothing Seed Oil Cleansing Balm and Cream Cleanser to remove all dirt and impurities. During this time, you can do a little self-care and take the luxury of time to apply some product. I apply the Miracle Night Serum, then a night cream that locks in a retinol replacement serum to target fine lines and wrinkles, followed by a Restoring Eye Cream to hydrate my under-eye area. Finish with Intense Repair Night Cream to deeply moisturize and rejuvenate your skin overnight.Always put a night cream on your neck and the backs of your hands – it’s so easy to forget this in your 30s… Thankfully my mom taught me this beauty secret… now I use SPF protective drops on the backs of my hands I will also put
What led you to launch the skin care brand “Olivanna”?
The launch of Orivanna was inspired by my daughters’ desire to create a skin care line specifically formulated for young skin. This line ensures that there are no side effects, as many of the products we use are not suitable for young skin. At Orivanna, we believe in a generational approach to skincare and have formulated products for women alongside products for younger skin.
The brand believes in the power of nature, was this the vision from the beginning?
I was an early adopter of organic and natural beauty, so Orivanna absolutely had to follow my values and beliefs. Nature offers a vast array of botanical wonders, each with its own properties and benefits. Olivanna harnesses the power of botanical active ingredients by carefully selecting the finest ingredients.
How do we carefully source skin-friendly ingredients?
Our signature healing complex is comprised of the finest British botanicals. Our trio of soothing anti-inflammatory actives gently rebalances skin’s delicate microbiome, protecting it from pollution and environmental aggressors. For best results, we use the highest concentration of antioxidant-rich rosemary extract, redness-reducing cornflower, and soothing organic chamomile.
The label packaging comes in an artisan glass bottle. How has sustainability become a focus for the brand?
Sustainability has been a focus for Orivanna since the beginning and extends to every aspect of the business, including packaging choices. We are committed to minimizing our impact on the environment and promoting environmentally responsible practices throughout our Orivanna journey. Our artisanal glass bottles are designed to encourage a more sustainable lifestyle for our customers. It can be reused or recycled, making it an environmentally friendly choice that reduces waste and minimizes the use of new resources.

This brand is formulated with young skin in mind. Was it important to you to focus on natural formulations from the beginning?
My two daughters are the inspiration for Olivanna and ultimately led me to create Olivanna for younger skin.
