A new viral video on X (formerly Twitter) made me wonder if I should switch to black coffee on my next Dunkin’ Run. A video shared by @davidbelle_ explains the amount of calories, sugar, and carbohydrates in Pumpkin Swirl Frozen Coffee. And the numbers are staggering to say the least.
“Friends, this is Pumpkin Swirl Frozen Coffee. This drink contains 185 grams of sugar, so who thought it would be a good idea to put this on the menu…46 tsp. A cup of sugar,” he revealed. “Let’s look at it another way. It has the same amount of sugar as 14 glazed donuts. And there’s no pumpkin in here. It’s artificial flavoring…The calories are… 930 calories, 194 carbs.”
“If America does this, we’ll be in trouble,” he added.
Comments on the shocking video were a mix of sarcasm and optimism.
“American coffee is just a socially acceptable milkshake for adults.” Said 1 user.
“My main takeaway from this is that donuts aren’t that bad for you,” said another. Added.
The video went viral at the same time Dunkin’ announced its new Ice Spice Munchkins drink, a collaboration with rapper Ice Spice. If you think Pumpkin Swirl Frozen Coffee is crazy, wait until you hear about the calories in Iced Spice Man Chicken His drink. Another post by X includes an image of the nutritional information for a drink made using actual Munchkin donuts and has 1,080 calories in a large.
As a quick reminder, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that “2,000 calories a day is used as a general guideline for nutritional guidance.” According to the FDA, this number can be higher or lower depending on your age, gender, height, weight, and physical activity level.
If you do the math, two large iced Spice Munchkin drinks will contain well over 2,000 calories. Wow!
