SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A popular Sioux Falls fundraiser is coming back this year after a three-year hiatus.
Tickets for Dancing with the Sioux Falls Stars are on sale now. This event is not only a chance to see some great local action, but also a chance to raise money for an important cause.
“Dance is more than just movement; it’s multidimensional, it’s emotional, it’s about telling a story,” said Sioux Falls Dancing with the Stars contestants Kristin Hoeffert Redlinger and Thomas Nguyen. Told.
Kristin Hoefert Redlinger is one of the local community leaders participating in the contest.
“I’m really bad at it. I thought I’d be better. Nothing comes naturally,” Heffert Redlinger said.
But her professional dance partner Thomas Nguyen says she and the other local candidates are quick learners.
“I’m really proud of how far she’s come. We’re only three weeks away from the show, and I think she’s going to absolutely destroy it,” Nguyen said.
Hofeld Redlinger said their new talent was part of the fun of seeing the event in person.
“I broke some toes,” Heffert Redlinger said. “But I think watching people progress and do something different can be really fun, whether they’re being entertained by our lack of skill or being entertained by our skills. think.”
But most importantly, it’s an opportunity to raise support and awareness for a cause that affects people from all walks of life.
“We really want to reach the more than 35,000 people who are diagnosed with a mental illness each year,” said Phyllis Allens of Empire Mental Health Support.
Dancing with the Sioux Falls Stars is all about sharing your mental health story.
“One of my hopes is that after Dancing with the Stars, the participants will be able to go home, talk about their mental health with their family and friends, and seek treatment.” Ahrens said.
Phyllis Arends from Empire Mental Health Support said the dancing fundraiser was a perfect fit for raising support for a good cause.
“Physical activity and music are very good for the mind and soul,” Allens said.
“Our routines are meant to evoke emotion and tug at the heartstrings,” said Hohfeld-Redlinger. “When people walk away from our performance, we hope that what they leave with is a sense that they are not alone.” Dancing with the Sioux Falls Starts , will be held on Saturday, October 7th at The District in Sioux Falls. All ticket sales and proceeds will help fund mental health support groups, education, and advocacy provided by Empire Mental Health Support across the state.
