TV host and entrepreneur Jeanie My Jenkins, former co-host real, Jenkins, who became the proud mother of baby girl Monaco to husband Jeezy in January 2022, joined forces with Tiffany Haddish on stage at BTL Aesthetics’ EMFEST in Huntington Beach, CA this weekend. While fitting, he remained true to his own style.
No one to chew words, Jenkins opened the curtain on the refreshing reality of postpartum, talking about body image, money and skin care. During her chat with her do-it-all mom, we delved even deeper into her down-to-earth perspective that everyone can relate to.
A girl was born recently. Congratulations! How was your postpartum? I’m sure the public attention will add another layer.
No one talks about postpartum anxiety. I’ve heard a lot about postpartum depression. Before I left every doctor, I checked everything. Make sure you’re not depressed, make sure you don’t want to kill yourself, make sure you haven’t slept all day. And I thought, “Okay, I don’t have that.” But what I had instead was this insane anxiety that makes me feel scared of anyone touching my baby, asking me to go out, or posting on social media. I thought, “What if?” And I used to play it every day, which is very unhealthy for you and very draining.
right. And trying to control it, it’s already bad. So, about two months after he was born, I said, “Okay, this anxiety is overdone.” I went to see a therapist, took a survey about me, and was told I had postpartum anxiety. And I said, “Wait, shut up. What’s that?” So when he explained it, we realized we needed to understand more about his PBD and PBA. [postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety] teeth. We have to make space for moms. It can take up to 5 years for many women, depending on their health. Thankfully, in my case, it ended after only 8 months or so. Now I have much more compassion and patience with my mother.
How is it physically? You said you struggled with the “poo” after giving birth.
I’m not going to sit here and say that I had a problem and was struggling with my weight because there are a lot of moms out there with babies gaining too much weight to drop. I gained weight, but I exercised a lot and I love working out. So I got away with it and lost it. The difficulty for me is that certain parts of the body don’t look the same. And even if I’m skinny, in shape, and healthy, there’s a difference.
I have to wear tighter bras now because my breasts hang differently and my nipples look different and look cross-eyed. But what I remind myself is that I did it. I did it all myself. 100%. I carried and maintained a very healthy womb for my baby. And I am now a successful mother. i am healthy she is smiling So I’m fine I tell myself I’m going to get over the loose skin, the sticky gut, the cross-eyed breasts, whatever it is.
What is your experience with EMSCULPT?
I love emsculpting and after giving birth I had emsculpting on my lower abdomen and thighs. There were 3 sessions waiting, but I only went to one of hers.
Didn’t you do the second and third?
No; I didn’t need it! I saw results after one session. I probably have less fat than the average patient, but the results were immediate. And I loved it. I was like, “This is good.” My Asian side was like, “Let’s save that for the future.” [Laughs.] But I didn’t have to go.
You said you weren’t used to spending money on yourself. What would you say are your favorite beauty and health indulgences?
Massage is my favourite. I use my friend’s girlfriend’s Soothe app just to get a discount. So massage is my number one luxury, but I didn’t get one until I was in my late 30s. I love facials. Shani Darden is a gift from God. She’s just magical. You’ll soon see a change and she’ll be a good penny. But again, I’m enjoying it now. Now I’m like, ‘No, I’m entitled to the money I worked for me. So yes, I will. ” I still live my money wisely. You don’t have to do a facial every day. But whenever I feel like I need some love, I give myself a facial or a massage.
Do you have a favorite beauty or skin care product?
U Beauty has the best moisturizer ever. This is the best moisturizer I have ever seen on the market. It’s amazing. And it actually locks in moisture until the next day. I used to apply only moisturizer as makeup, but it gives my skin a glassy look that Koreans love. very good
she [U Beauty founder, Tina Craig] Now she has it for her body, and she also has a lip gloss that happens to be a lip plumper too. It’s very nice because it comes out of this metal tip. I never thought lip gloss could be so luxurious. It’s a game changer.
