But it’s hard to know if the money you’re spending is actually going down your pores or just going down the drain.

So, if you’re exhausted by your 20-step skincare routine and tired of spending big bucks on skincare, Skin & Sanctuary Esthetician Freya Moore shares some free ways to brighten your skin. To do.
1. Facial massage
Many of us have seen, or at least heard of, gua sha.
Traditional Chinese healing has become all the rage in 2022 thanks to TikTok and more.
The stones in hand are believed to activate blood flow, stimulate lymph flow, make the skin clearer and reduce puffiness.
But you don’t have to pour out your hard-earned cash on Guasha to really experience its benefits, Freya. Skin and Sanctuary Clinic told The Sun newspaper.
You can use your hand or fingers instead.
“Learn simple techniques at home from Instagram, Youtube,” she said.
“Facial massage relaxes facial muscles, improves blood circulation, reduces tension and stress, which is good for your skin and you,” she added.
Always use gentle techniques and be careful not to apply too much pressure to avoid potential harm.
“If you have specific skin concerns, it’s still best to consult a professional,” added Freya.
2. Drink enough water
We are always told to drink more water, especially at this time of year.
In fact, new research suggests that millions of Britons are drinking less than the recommended daily intake of water.
A survey of British drinking habits found that the average adult drinks about 1 liter of water each day.
But according to NHS guidelines, the optimal amount is closer to 2-3 liters per day.
Hydration is essential. It helps cool the body, expel toxins and improve brain function.
Drinking lots of liquids can also improve your skin.
Freya says, ‘Water keeps your skin hydrated, which leads to a softer, smoother appearance.
“And by removing toxins, water contributes to clearer skin and healthier-looking skin.”
3. Keep out of the sun
The verdict was that there is no safe way to get a tan.
Contrary to what you might think, tanning doesn’t protect your skin from the sun’s harmful effects, says the NHS.
“The UV rays from the sun cause premature aging, wrinkles and sunspots,” says Freya.
Over time, UV rays destroy collagen and elastin in the skin, essential proteins that keep skin firm and elastic.
“So limiting the amount of time in the sun and staying in the shade is important to keep your skin looking youthful,” she says.
4. Prioritize sleep
It’s easy to see that a lack of sleep at night shows on your face.
“While you sleep, your body produces more collagen, a protein that helps maintain skin elasticity and reduce fine lines and wrinkles,” explained Freya.
“Sleep also supports skin cell regeneration, helping to replace damaged or dead cells with new, healthier cells, resulting in fresher-looking skin.”
She adds, “Not only does it reduce inflammation, but it also reduces dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.”
5. Change pillowcases often
So, I found out that our pillowcases are pretty dirty.
A new study found that sleeping on a pillowcase for just one week can accumulate more than 17,000 more bacteria than a toilet seat.
So it’s not surprising that Freya suggested changing cases at least once a week.
“Dirt and bacterial buildup can cause all sorts of skin problems, including acne, skin irritation, infections, and inflammation,” she says.
